Ferien auf der Plastikinsel

Nina Kneubühler

Perhaps the idea of having a child can be compared to booking a holiday on a shady website. The offers are somehow cheaper than usual. Tempting. Overexposed photos that make the sea appear three times as blue as it can be in reality. The beach chalk-white. Very promising at first glance. You're excited, but have a slightly uneasy feeling. In the end, you leave your familiar territory to immerse yourself in a new world that is not necessarily better or worse. Just different. And somehow more intense.

1 / 7

My work is about motherhood and how social expectations shape motherhood, how traditional role models are upheld and how young women can reconcile the desire to have children with their own independence.

1 / 7

How do society's expectations influence women and expectant mothers in their life planning? Is the desire to have children ultimately our own wish, or is it the result of external pressure and influences? After all, we can do anything we want. And then we want a child. A family. A house with a garden.

A work about family and belonging and the freedom and limits of our society.

Finale 23

Diplome

After three years of virtual or hybrid exhibition formats, a final exhibition was held at Fellerstrasse 11 in Bümpliz for the first time again in 2023. However, the pandemic not only led to the establishment of new forms of exhibiting. Of course, the crisis also had a direct impact on the studies of many students: They hardly saw each other on site, often worked alone and moved almost exclusively in virtual space. This also led to many students wanting to extend their time at HKB. This year in July, twelve students graduated from the Visual Communication programme. You can find their work here:
